Brenda Hawbaker Lewis:

Child Advocate, Speaker and Author

I just had the beautiful, difficult and exhilarating experience of writing my first book…about my  brother, Timmy Hawbaker, called “A Gorgeous Sexy Life…Timmy’s Take on the World”. It has  been an exciting and extremely labor intensive exercise for a woman who seldom stays in any one place more than 3 weeks at a time!

Had it not been for Covid 19 (I assure you, I am not taking this pandemic lightly), I would never  have had the wherewithal to stay put long enough to finish this book. (I often travel around 100,000 miles each year). Inspired by my sweet brother, Timmy, “A Gorgeous Sexy Life” is full of Timmy quotes and short life lessons that is easily read in a couple of hours. But, hopefully Timmy’s profound truths and hilarious perspective on life will last a lot longer. My desire was that this book would represent Timmy well. (I even purchased a “Timmy” font for it.) I wanted the reader to understand Timmy’s character, get to know his personality and hear his voice to the best of my ability. (Timmy has a genetic syndrome called Fragile X that makes traditional learning almost impossible. He is delayed in almost every area except in giving love…and in that he is exceptional!) I might have other books in me to be written, but none that will be any more meaningful than this one, I believe. What a great adventure this has been!

A bit about me:

I have the privilege of traveling to many countries in the world and many States in the U.S., speaking to students, (age 18-28) in discipleship schools. I have a passion to teach about “Living the Dream” and challenging people to fulfill the call of God on their lives, with all the  adventure and challenges that come with it!

Also, since 1992, I have had the honor to work with many ministries and communities around the world: Last Days Ministries, Mercy Ships, and Youth with a Mission/Axiom. But, one of the  greatest privileges of my life came in 2004. Working alongside a group of amazing individuals in Asia, I  founded a non-profit organization, called Child Restoration, International. We rescue children at risk of sexual exploitation and trafficking in Asia by building safe homes and providing a sense of family. It has been exciting and heartbreaking at times. But, I am grateful beyond measure for all the children God has entrusted to our care!

As Robert Capon said so well, “We gasp under a thick blanket of boredom when we should  be breathing free the intoxicating air of astonishment!” In Christ, we can all lead the lives He  has designed for us…we can live the dream (even with it’s setbacks and challenges), and we can live lives of greater grace and love than we ever imagined!

Like Timmy, we can lead a “Gorgeous Sexy Life!”
