“Hi B Jean, do you want me to make you some gorgeous, sexy coffee?”…

Brenda’s brother, Timmy offered when she arrived in his home in Florida for a recent visit.  Brenda replied with an enthusiastic “Absolutely Timmy…no one makes gorgeous sexy coffee like you do!”  When he was young, Timmy started calling anything he liked, gorgeous and sexy.  He doesn’t really understand what sexy means, but he knows it must be good!  

“A Gorgeous Sexy Life” is the brain-child of Author, Brenda Hawbaker Lewis.  However, the heart and soul of the book is all about Brenda’s developmentally challenged brother, Timmy!  Brenda recognized early on that her younger brother, Timmy and many male relatives were mentally challenged in every way…except in showing love.  Writing, reading and even tying their own shoes would be out of reach for the “special” children in her family, as they were born with a genetic mutation called, Fragile X Syndrome.  However, even with these learning challenges, Brenda’s family didn’t see their special children as “burdens to bear”. 

Rather, Brenda and her family found that their “special” children were the beautiful glue that seemed to hold everyone together!  Families with “special” children are among the “LUCKY FEW” who have the privilege of raising them. The funny insights, profound truths, and love poured out so lavishly on others is an inspiration to everyone who knows Timmy, and others like him.

Brenda wrote this book in a very challenging time…the age of Coronavirus, political upheaval and racial unrest.  It is her desire to take you, the reader, into Timmy’s irreverent, inspirational, and happy world, where “everybody knows your name and are always glad you came”, to quote the “Cheers” TV show.  

If “the pure in heart will see God”, Timmy must have a spectacular view!  Maybe we can all see God a little clearer through Timmy’s eyes?   “A Gorgeous Sexy Life” is Timmy’s take on the world: written in short stories and Timmy quotes that will make you laugh and maybe even tear up a little.
